This competency was developed for combat arms personnel required to deploy in an operational environment, but is applicable to any individual in this field of work.
Typically supervisors work independently and as part of a team under direct and/or indirect supervision, use discretion and judgement, and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs.
All activities are carried out in accordance with relevant organisational policies and procedures.

Identify tasks and collect appropriate information | 1.1 Requirement to conduct combat arms tasks is determined from orders, and appropriate standard procedures are identified and applied. 1.2 Constraints imposed on tasks are determined and managed. 1.3 Training requirements are identified and addressed. 1.4 Resource requirements are identified and managed. 1.5 Shortfalls/problems are reported through the chain of command. 1.6 Work health and safety (WHS) requirements and recognised safety precautions including those contained in Australian Defence Force (ADF) procedures, are applied throughout the operation. |
2. Plan and prepare for combat arms tasks | 2.1 Information and intelligence in support of operations is identified and analysed. 2.2 Risk is identified and managed. 2.3 Decision making process is conducted. 2.4 Combat arm elements appropriate to the task are identified and advised. 2.5 In-service resources allocated to the task are managed. 2.6 Plans are adjusted to accord with resource availability. 2.7 Orders are prepared and issued to combat arms organisations indicating their missions, tasks, resources, constraints and limitations. 2.8 Battle procedure is supervised and conducted. 2.9 Liaison is conducted in accordance with operational requirements. |
3. Conduct combat arms operations | 3.1 Appropriate supporting battlespace operating systems are employed and/or coordinated. 3.2 Plans are modified to reflect changes in effort, resources and support. 3.3 Operations are conducted as ordered, reallocating/adjusting resources to meet operational requirements. 3.4 Operations are continuously monitored to ensure efficiency of their conduct and achievement of the mission. 3.5 Liaison and coordination with stakeholders is conducted. 3.6 Reported problems are actioned. 3.7 Reports are provided. |

The context of assessment would usually be simulated due to the nature of this high risk environment. |
